An Open Heart
(Terri L. Onorato)
Just when you know you need it most
feeling lost, sad and alone,
she wraps her paws around your heart
and hugs your aching soul.
She reminds you how it used to be
when you shared each passing day
and with gentle touch of whispered wings
she wipes your tears away.
If you listen closely
she will thank you for the gift
in which you sacrificed your heart
so that she may go to Rainbow Bridge.
When you feel a flutter on your skin,
a tender nudge within your palm
close your eyes and share with her
the angelic, tranquil calm.
Should you give to her your open heart
the healing will begin
and upon a new plateau you'll find
your best friend once again.
Just when you know you need it most
she'll unselfishly abide
if you offer her a path that's paved
with an open heart and mind.

Shadows
(Terri L. Onorato)
She bounds one leap in front of me
from somewhere far beyond my reach,
her shadow gray with hints of white
whispered breeze of angel flight.
Toward an everlasting life
her shadow swift, like angels fly,
the essence of her soul ignites
as she passes through the other side.
Into the mist she disappears
and leaves with me a song so clear,
as harps resound and trumpets ring
her shadow flies on angel wings.

This Tender Path
(Terri Onorato)
There was a time not long ago
I couldn't feel you near,
I'd cry myself to sleep at night
and watch dawn break through tears.
Encased in pain and sorrow
I couldn't plainly see
the essence of your precious soul
awaiting me so patiently.
I searched my heart with restless speed
but the desperate pace I'd set
caused a shroud to camouflage
the loving signs you sent.
In your own angelic way
you stilled my hurried quest
to reaffirm the love we shared
and put my fears to rest.
You let me know it mattered not
our length of time together,
for time can't measure what we had
nor can our bond it sever.
Learning kindness and compassion
I walk this tender path with care
in the knowledge that your love lives on
through the common bond we share.
I don't take this message lightly
and the purpose is not lost
give back the love that's paved upon
this tender path I walk.
