Castles in the Air (for a Peke)

Pekingese, Oh! Pekingese
Dreaming on your bed
Is it your noble ancestry
That's pictured in your head?
An Empress with night black hair
Where pearls and rubies weave
And were you then the little dog
She carried in her sleeve?
Robes of satin, topaz, rose
Amethyst and blue.
Tables carved from ivory
Sweetmeats just for you.
And did you scamper through the courst
While playing with your ball
Among the tiny jewelled feet
The darling of them all?
Those brilliant ladies are no more
Their laughter on the breeze
Who swayed like painted butterflies
Beneath the Summer trees.
Deserted are the Fountain Courts
Where once you used to lie
The Dragon tapestries are gone
The Lotus pools are dry.
Pekingese, Oh Pekingese
Fine castles set apart
Though I have but a simple home
You have my loving heart.

Poodles

Poodles have manes and Poodles have puffs
And Poodles have poms like fluffy hand cuffs.
Poodles walk proudly on elegant feet
And like to go dancing all down the street.
Poodles are French and Poodles are beau
And Poodles are Chic if not Comme il Faut.
Poodles are sharp and brighter than most
But Poodles when called are as deaf as a post!!
