~ When Tomorrow is Yesterday ~

I awoke this morning my eyes filled with tears
For your bed is now empty my friend of many years.
The tomorrow I dreaded came yesterday
With your last kiss you gave, your muzzle so gray.
As I laid you to rest you took my broken heart to
Wrapped in your blanket with a bone you can’t chew.
Silly, I know, but I just couldn’t put you to rest
With nothing of yours to take on your quest.
Twelve happy years I just put in the ground,
How fast they went as with the speed of sound.
My first day without you, a nightmare for me,
For now only memories of you will I see.
Sweet memories, I know, but they’ll never replace
The sound of your bark nor your “kiss” on my face.
The warmth of your body snuggled close to mine,
The look in your eyes with pure love in their shine.
I’ll miss you, my friend, more than words can ever say
And I’ll cherish forever the years that you gave.
The happiest of years for you were always there,
My moods and emotions with you I could share.
It’s hard to remember life before you, so alone,
For you filled a space no human could own.
When tomorrow became yesterday with pain so intense,
I look to the heavens, they seem so immense.
I vision you somewhere out there waiting for me,
My only comfort, from pain your souls free.
The years that we shared I’ll keep safe in my heart
For the bond that we shared will never depart.
And when my tomorrow becomes yesterday,
United we’ll be, in the heavens we’ll play.
I must believe in order to cope with the loss
Of the truest of friends who left me alone and so lost.

Pattern of Life

My friend is alone now and so deep is her pain
Her senses she fears she’ll never regain.
For death came to visit her at noon yesterday,
Not a clue did she have he was coming her way.
So sudden he came no good-bye’s could be said,
The one came for silently laid down his head.
The pattern of life is one we all share.
It has hopes and dreams but laced with nightmares.
Our hearts are a patchwork of laughter and pain,
At times we wonder what’s left to regain.
Death always the winner or so it may seem….
But when the body is gone the soul has been freed
To fly with the angels or lounge on a cloud,
To forever be in a place pains not allowed.
Like the rose in the garden shaded by a fence,
One limb couldn’t bloom for no sun could it sense.
The limb finds a crack where sunlight shows
And through the crack in the fence the limb grows
To produce the most beautiful rose ever to see
For through that crack from the shade it was freed.
The rose tells the story of life we all know
For life has a fence with a crack for our souls.
When freed from the body its Heaven’s light that we seek
Where Heavenly Angels await the meek.
Our hearts are a patchwork of laughter and pain,
But when loved one’s go on their love still remains
To leave us with memories etched deep in our hearts,
Sweet memories we seek alone in the dark.
Not really alone for the love that was shared
Stays with us forever, our hearts never bare.
For broken hearts are mended with gold threads from above,
Our hearts held together by threads we call love.
