SHADOW'S SONG

(on the death of a cat)

          I'm not gone...not really.
          I haven't gone away...I've only gotten bigger.
My eyes, so bright, now shine among the stars.
My voice sings with the wind in winter, as I leap
And dance among the tree tops.
I stalk the blown leaves in autumn, and brush the
          Flowers gently in the spring.
I come to you in dreaming, on feet grown dreamtime soft,
And lay my cheek against yours, and whisper:
          "Peace be with you."
Someday we will play again together, you and I, among the
          stars.
'Til then, fear not to love, for your love gave my life meaning.
And I return that love to you...a hundredfold...a thousandfold...
          Forever.

PRAYER FOR A SICK PET

Lord take this pet if it be your will
she's so young and small and she's oh so ill
Don't let her suffer we ask you please
take this little soul and set our mind at ease
Guide her to Heaven where she'll be at home
where with all the other animals; she can play and roam
Playing all day up in the meadows above
cradled in Your arms covered with Your love
With no more aches and no more pains
she'll play in bright sunshine no more rain
We'll see her again we know we will
so take her Lord if it be your will

My Canine Soulmate...

How Did You Know?

              For Misty Blue
How did you know something was missing?
How did you know I needed you?
Were you so sure we'd fit together?
          Weren't you afraid I wouldn't do?
How did you know my patience level
Was the cause for such dismay?
What fateful process brought you to me
That I might learn to change my ways?
          What force beyond my knowledge
          Left you here so masterfully?
Did God know that I was failing
At the life He gave to me?
Why is it you're not angry
As how my past has treated you?
Is there a lesson in your forgiveness
That I should grasp and hold onto?
How can you love me without condition,
          Aware my lessons aren't complete?
Will you stick by me as I continue
To absorb the things you teach?
Did God tell you I was sinking
When He placed you in my life?
Or did you pick me above all others,
          A willing sacrifice?
Do you know that my heart yearns
To be a better friend to you?
Will you share with me your wisdom
Teach me to love the way you do?
          My sweetest canine soulmate
          Will your insight you bestow?
          And answer just one question,
Please tell me friend, how did you know?
