FROM LICORICE

WITH LOVE

When I came to live here, I knew that some day;
I'd stretch my legs and run away;
When freedom came calling and I felt the need;
Although I loved you, it's the nature of my breed;
It's wonderful to feel loved and I felt comfort here;
But it's only temporary, so don't shed a tear;
I'll run until dawn, and wait for the light;
I'll try to come home with all of my might;
But if something should happen and I don't reappear;
Remember the good times and all the good years.
I wrote this is remembrance of CH. Pole-Land's Sergeant
Pepper who escaped from my kennel yard and ran away a year and a half ago.
I never saw him again. Mary Alderman, JAMA Siberian Huskies and Whippets

DO I CARE

by Kellee T. Kerr, ACO

When I stare into their homeless eyes,
I wonder, "DO I CARE"
When yet another litter of puppies dies,
I wonder, "DO I CARE"
There's no way to end this tragic site,
No one to say what's wrong or right,
No way to end the guilt I feel,
Because it's my job, I have to kill.
When I pick your dog up off the busy street,
I do it because, "I CARE."
When I put your dog to sleep,
I do it because, "I CARE."
So the next time you abandon your family pet,
And in your heart feel no regret,
Please remember that I work for you,
And ask yourself--"DO YOU CARE?"
