While his person waited, outside the examining room door,
There were tears in her eyes, from the pain of the chore.
She said 15 years and he couldn't take no more,
Then the door it did open, and this is what I saw.
On the table there lie, a little shaggy pup,
Who lay peaceful as can be, and could no more get up.
The expression on his face, was one of content,
I swear I saw him smiling, part of the message that he sent.
His body lay still, but his spirit was all around,
He was off to Rainbow Bridge, where his youth could be found.
At this place Rainbow Bridge, there's grass and there's trees,
And all of his buddies, who for years he did not see.
He gave me this message, "Tell my persons I'm fine.
I know that they'll miss me, and it will take them some time.
Please give them my thanks, for the love they gave me,
And the courage that they had, when they finally set me free.
And tell them I'll wait, by the bottom of the ridge,
For the day that I see them, come across the Rainbow Bridge."
