Night Wind’s Howl

The night is so dark, not a star in the sky’s
Even the moon is lost from my eyes.
The clouds are so heavy with low winds that moan,
My soul is so heavy as I hear their low tone.
The voices of many are heard here tonight.
The restless, the lost, all those gone from our sight.
Are we sure it’s just wind that’s making the sound
Or lost lonely souls that peace have not found?
Are they souls that in life lived in torment till death,
Unloved and unwanted until their last breath.
Are they animal or human or a mixture entwined,
Relating their pain of how cruel is mankind.
The night winds howl has many stories to tell
Of suffering and death as tears in our eyes well.
Have we cared for our loved ones in death as in life?
Could we have done more as they lost their fight?
There is no answer for hearts broken in pain,
Forever to haunt us the guilt will remain.
For we have no control when death comes nor its ways,
Just the numbness of pain and our minds in a haze.
The howl of the wind in a lonely low tone
Reminds us in darkness of souls so alone.
Always so sad are these dark nights somehow
As we listen in silence to the night winds low howl.

No Doubt in My Mind

I’m so excited for today is the day,
My mind is made up and not to be swayed.
I’ve decided a puppy is what I need for me,
Not a care in the world what breed he will be.
I’ve located a breeder with such good reports,
She has many puppies of all breeds and sorts.
She brought out the pups of only three breeds,
Where are the others, may I see them to, please?
There are no others as she explained about mills
With numbers so massive and why they’re so ill.
As I looked at her pups, not one seemed just right
And the prices she quoted were for me out of sight.
I just want a puppy not to breed or be shown,
Just a companion for me to live in my home.
She looked at me hard, saw my pleading eyes,
The disappointment there I just couldn’t disguise.
She said, “I have one I haven’t shown to you,
Quite special he is and you must be to.
He has a fault that requires special care,
Tho if rules are followed through life he will fare.
His head has a hole that always will be
So care must be taken for fragile is he.
If you’re up to the challenge and if “he” approves,
Then I may consider just placing him with you.”
She brought him out, it was love at first sight,
I knew for sure this pup was just right!
We talked for hours about the care he would take
As he slept in my lap I knew this was not a mistake!
That was the day my life changed forever
In the years that have passed, not one regret, ever!
The breeder and I have become the closest of friends,
For thanks to her kindness I have a love without end.
Little did I know when I left home that day
That two friends I’d find as I made my way.
I smile at my boy, he smiles back at me,
He’s still in my lap, still gives kisses free.
When I left the house a companion to find,
I found the right one….no doubt in my mind!

No One Knows

When we’re alone we can break down and weep
For all of life’s hurts we have in our keep.
No one knows our pain and if so would they care
For they don’t understand, we’re alone, we can’t share.
Life is so hard, each new day a new fight,
We tussle and hustle trying to live it just right.
Only to find a mistake has been made,
One more regret with pain must be paid.
So we get by ourselves and let the tears flow
For sometimes it helps to cry we all know.
Suddenly we’re aware of a soft gentle whine
And a tail that wags slowly, no rhythm in mind.
Two eyes that probe deep straight into our souls
Full of love and concern, no doubt that he knows
How deep is our pain and his offer so clear,
Let me take your burden, I’m standing right here.
How thankful we are to have one we can hug,
Who snuggles so close to help ease our snubs.
Tears he will tenderly wash from our face
As he gives his all, our pain to erase.
So we hold him so close till tears no longer flow
As we become calm from the love he does show.
Words are not needed, our touch says it all
Our thanks to him given, his strength broke our fall.
The kiss that we place so gentle on his head
Tells him we love him tho no words are said.
Tears well again but this time for love
Of a dog held so close, the friend so in need of.
Tho life can be painful there’s one thing we know,
Our burdens are shared silently by the dog we love so.
