“Just A Puppy”

I’m just a puppy, can’t you see
Please don’t expect to much from me.
I must be trained, I must be taught
what I can do and what I cannot.
Taken from my momma and siblings to
I’m lost, alone in strange surroundings.
Please be patient, please be kind
until my place with you I find.
My little body’s fragile to
I may be a dog but my bones will break
if the proper care you don’t take.
I’m just a baby, a living being.
Not a kid’s toy or worse yet,
left alone tied to a stake or
a puppy mill, oh please, please not that fate!
Just look at me so cute and cuddly,
I’m even cute when I’m mud-puddly!
You wanted me, so here I am....
Only you can make our life so grand!
So love me and teach me as I grow,
I’ll give it all back for free you know.
I’ll be a good dog if you’re a good guide.
But patience and understanding are required,
your love most of all you must not hide.
I may be a baby, but I have acquired
the ability to sense human feelings hidden deep inside.
I may be a puppy but I won’t forget
who shows me the care and the love I need
to be the best dog you could ever get!
Everything I am is yours for free,
you light up my life when you notice me!
I’m just a puppy and like a human baby,
I’ll grow, I’ll learn, my molds in your hands.
You must be the one who understands
the wants and needs of your new baby.
A bundle of mischief, a bundle of laughs,
a bundle of love like you’ve never had!
And all from a dog, who is.......
just a puppy!

Life Is a Chance

Many poems I’ve written, some true and some not
But hidden in each one is a definite plot.
They may contain stories of laughter or sorrow,
Some may speak of the fears of tomorrow.
Whatever the case there is always the truth
For life is always a chance for me and for you.
A chance we’ll be happy or a chance we’ll be blue,
But when a pet is involved, we have both in the loo.
As people we love, a pet falls in the same group
And when one is lost it’s so hard to recoup.
We learn to love them, they become family to us
And some more than people in pets place their trust.
We catch ourselves talking to them as tho humans they are
But a dog treated so shows the most love by far.
There’s comfort there as you vent things you feel
And know there’s no way your words he’ll reveal.
There’s comfort there also to know he’s always waiting
For his special time with you he’s always anticipating.
There’s just something about having a dog by your side
The tensions of the day just seem to somehow subside.
Life is a chance always of happiness and sorrow
But to stay so reserved, it’s just loneliness we borrow.
Why be alone when you don’t have to be
When a dog by your side is the best friend you’ll see.
It’s sorrow I feel for those unable to own
A dog for themselves, it so empties their home.
Life is a chance but it has one you can take,
For a dog at your side is never a mistake.

Light of Love

Some people won’t show the love that they feel
For the dog that stands so proud at their heel.
They feel it a weakness they can’t allow shown
The same to shed tears, they must be alone.
But what they don’t know or don’t realize
The emotions they show when we look in their eyes.
For the eyes reveal what the heart hides from view,
Completely denying the words heard from you.
Tho you try to be macho with a voice so stern,
Its obvious to me your heart this dogs earned.
If you truly felt the way you try to show
The dog by your side would let us all know.
Instead in his eyes the light of love shines
When you leave his sight he utters soft whines.
Everyone knows a dog’s keen sense of character
Of people they meet, no man can judge better.
This dog tells me how you really feel inside
As he whines after you and won’t leave your side.
You should swallow your pride and let the world know
How much you care about the dog in your hold.
To show love for an animal doesn’t mean that you’re weak,
Contrary to that it just shows you’re complete.
For the man who is able to show love publicly
Gains the highest respect from the world and from me.
Human emotions are so often denied
For many reasons but mostly from pride.
Pride we must all have within ourselves,
Without it I know we’d all need some help.
Just don’t be afraid nor too proud to show
Just how you feel about the dog you love so.
You can’t deny and he doesn’t try to hide
The bond felt between you when he looks in your eyes.
So you can be “macho” with a voice so stern
But you fool no one, his love you’ve earned.
I bet when you’re home and no one’s around
You show him then how your love abounds.
Not a good judge of man but dogs I know well
And the love you try to hide to the world he does tell.
