-
Long after the tears
-
-
His bones are creaky, he's not too sound,
-
but his eyes are bright and his tummy round.
-
He's gone quite deaf and his face is grey
-
I walk the others, but he's happy to stay.
-
His tail still wags and I get a greeting
-
He's happy to potter and he's still eating
-
I have to bellow to make myself heard
-
Some things he does without a word.
-
-
The old man and I have seen such a lot
-
He's one of the most treasured friends I've got
-
He's a pain at times, I have to admit
-
But I wouldn't change him - not one little bit
-
The years creeps by - the time ticks on
-
I know that one day he'll be gone
-
When the time comes, I will know
-
I'll do what's right - I'll let him go.
-
-
God willing I'll be with him and hold him tight
-
And see him safely into his long "good night"
-
But until that time I'll keep him near
-
to me he's part of all that's dear.
-
He's got no title - what do I care?
-
All I worry is that he's there.
-
The time will come when he is no more
-
And in my life will close a door.
-
-
But I'll have the memories from all the years
-
And they will remain long after the tears.

Dog Ageing
-
-
My body may age but my mind will stay young.
-
I've much left to do, many songs to be sung.
-
many roads are to be travelled, much love to express,
-
many souls that need aid, who are now in distress.
-
I will do what I can to help brighten your day,
-
I will spread cheer and love as I pass by your way.
-
The world is my oyster, to have and to hold,
-
why, I'm really too busy to ever grow old.
