Simply a Stray

I am not 'simply a stray' you know.
There is much more to me than that....
I would give you my heart, for another start
And a place to hang my hat.
I would welcome you at your front door,
Or walk with you in the park.
We could play ball in the garden
And I'd scare thieves away in the dark.
I could offer you companionship,
When you are tired at the end of the day.
I would give you my heart for another start...
I am much more than 'simply a stray'

A Yorkie Waits In Heaven

A dear little friend and companion was he,
Who came every evening and sat on my knee.
He was bright as a button, he brought us his ball,
And we played in the garden in the shade of the wall.
He didn't ask much, just a meal and his bed,
Or a walk in the fields, (we would stroll where he led.)
Our little man, and our doglet we called him
The loyalty he gave us was really enthralling.

Two little dark eyes, now shuttered and closed
Once shone out so brightly, his little wet nose
Would nuzzle my hand and show me such care,
When e'er I was weary or feeling despair.
We little realised how much we would grieve ,
When we said our goodbyes,(or the huge gap he'd leave.)
I know he will wait for me, where he has gone,
He'll be there at the gate to guide me along,
We'll be re-united and ne'er more will part.
There's a Yorkie in Heaven, with a Rottweiller's heart.

The Duchess

No nose will nudge our leg tonight.
Our ears won't hear soft sighs,
As we gently stroke a loving head,
And gaze into gentle eyes.
No lass will plead for tit-bits now,
Or bark at the morning post.
Who will lay in the place that Meg made her space?
For that's where we miss her most.

She joined us for her Autumn years,
'A Duchess' who had retired,
Who quietly trained us to give her,
Everything her heart desired.
She gave us love so willingly,
She would often growl "Hello"
We will miss the old girl who made us her world,
Because we loved her so.
